Complaints and Common Faults

  • 1. Fuel System:

    • Leaks fuel from tank during fill-up, potentially very dangerous
    • Leak developed where gas tank hose connects to filling/venting tube
    • Fuel pump failure, fuel pump replaced 5 times
    • E150 van frame cracked around bolt heads holding steering box on, causing erratic steering

  • 2. Steering:

    • 3 mounting bolts holding frame of steering gear have broken off, causing loss of vehicle control
    • Steering gear box collapsed
    • Front ball joints wear excessively quickly, creating steering and vehicle control problems
    • Steering wheel seized due to gear box detaching from subframe
    • Inner wheel bearing disintegrated allowing rotor to fall off spindle
    • Steering locks up when brakes are applied
    • Steering is locking causing loss of control

  • 3. Brakes:

    • Brake failure
    • Brakes failed, equipped with ABS brakes
    • Brake hose not long enough, causing brake fluid to leak
    • Rear brake line worn out by bracket, resulting in rear brake failure
    • Brake pedal fades while applying ABS brakes at any speed
    • Brakes dragging against rotors
    • Rear sofa seat belt buckle too long, dealer unable to shorten seat belt

  • 4. Electrical:

    • A/C and heater blower switches too light for application, electrical system draws too many amps, burns underdash wiring, can cause fires
    • Transformer for neon light beam overheated and caught on fire
    • Power mirror switch failed, resulting in fire
    • Wire inside windshield motor shorted out, causing intermittent operation of windshield wipers, poor visibility

  • 5. Tires/Wheels:

    • Tire tread separation
    • Tire tread came off tire, rim on right front wheel cracking
    • Tire tread complete separation, tire lost its tread on highway
    • Wheel could have popped off while driving
    • Wheel fell off van and hit another vehicle on the road

  • 6. Miscellaneous:

    • Oxygen sensor failed
    • Vehicle stalls sometimes at any speed
    • Transmission operates poorly when vehicle temperature is high
    • Vehicle shut down with no warning, making steering difficult and reducing braking

  • 7. Recalls/Service:

    • Difficulty locating dealership to do recall for lamp and socket
    • Non-responsive to recall fix
    • Ford recall #05S28 regarding speed control deactivation switch
    • Vehicle fire, not included in recall
    • Owner had to drive vehicle in second gear after transmission disengaged
